Merry Christmas!

The 3 of us opened presents this afternoon. Calvin seemed to be getting the hang of it.

Until he tried to escape.

Lucky for us, he was unsuccessful and we got the best present of all:

He couldn't figure out why he was a present, but we know.

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Merry Christmas!

I have a lot of catching up to do, so here goes:

Grandpa Floyd and Grandma Gloria were here to visit starting on December 13 and they were able to stay a few days. We were very happy to have them here and I was especially glad that Calvin got to spend some time with Grandpa and Grandma. They got to watch Calvin open his very first Christmas presents!
They also took naps,

and Grandpa showed Calvin how to be 'super-fast.'

I have never seen those moves before!!

SNOW!

It snowed this weekend, Calvin was quite fascinated by it.

Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow!

Thanksgiving was different this year. We didn't have company this year so the three of us went to Wade's cousin Sharon's for a few hours and then went up to Janet and Charlie's for dinner. Calvin was so good for us all day. All the cousin's loved playing with him. We forgot the camera so we don't have any pictures of us on Thanksgiving. I will do better with the coming holidays.

Clapping Calvin

Calvin's newest thing is clapping. He LOVES patty cake, though Wade nor I know the real words, so when I sing it, I make up half the words. Calvin doesn't seem to mind. He likes to stand up while we're holding on to him and right now, without fail, he starts to clap.

His other past times are jumping in his baby Einstein jumper and drooling. He cut a tooth after all that drool, a top tooth to the left of the front tooth and it looks like more are coming.

Saturday Morning Feeding Time

This was a fun Saturday morning (11/15/08)! He had zero interest in eating more than 5 bites that I fed him, so I set the plate down for him to try himself.

Try he did!

Though he tried eating the bowl more than he tried eating the food.

Maybe plums and bananas aren't so yummy in the tummy, but they sure are fun to play with!

Halloween

Halloween was rather uneventful but we still had fun. Calvin wore a pumpkin sweat suit and helped me hand out candy. Wade was working that night, so when it was bath time, I had to shut off the outside lights and I think we missed a lot of trick or treators. The photos taken that day are really blurry and I'm not sure why. Here's the best one! He was a very happy little guy. nd he's sitting really well now but he's not interested in crawling.

Fall day

Yesterday, we spent a family day together. Just hanging out around the house. One of our favorite games is the loose moose and we also enjoy being outside.

Last night, Calvin picked up a finger food with his thumb and pointer finger! Up until then, he had been raking the food and picking it up in his palm. It's amazing to watch him grow.

Wedding Day! (continued)

Calvin with Grandpa Al.

Calvin with Dad.

Calvin chilling out.

Calvin's suit was the cutest. He was the star of the show and I couldn't have been more pleased!

Wedding Day! OCTOBER 10, 2008

We're married!

Wade and I got married on October 10, 2008! We had a really nice day with our closest friends, my mom and his dad. It was truly a wonderful day. The sun was out, Calvin was an angel, the temperature was around 70. The pictures say more than words probably can.

This photo was taken after our ceremony.

This photo was when I was getting ready, Janet was trying to get my snap to latch.

This photo was taken at our reception dinner, which we had at the Texas Roadhouse.

Surgery

Today I had surgery on my left foot, the bunion. It has been quite painful since about July and I haven't been able to wear shoes, not even tennis shoes or Dansko's without sharp pain. I am recovering well and hope this will allow me to resume normal activity again.

Trip to Minnesota (continued)

Sorry for the long delay in getting back to the blog. Lots has happened since my last writing. To finish the last entry, Calvin and I enjoyed Vicki's wedding very much. She had a beautiful dress and looked just lovely.

After the wedding, we drove to Savage and stayed with Dana Reetz and her family until Monday morning when we left. They had a bonfire on the front drive way on Friday and invited their neighbors over. What a great neighborhood they live in. A couple of Dana's coworkers also came over. Everyone was very nice and I had a good time.

On Sunday, we took pictures. Calvin is not fond of camera flash and every time he sees a camera or my cell phone he immediately stops what he's doing and just stares, his smiles are very elusive. I love the picture below, he is just learning to sit and it was the first time he was in grass and able to inspect the leaves. Of course he wanted every one of them in his mouth but fortunately Dana and I were able to stop those attempts successfully.

Calvin was cutting his first teeth over the weekend. Dana told me he was teething and sure enough by Monday morning, I could see his bottom middle-right tooth! By Wednesday of that week, the left one was coming in too. We gave him a bottle of diluted pear juice with ice and he just loved to chew on that bottle!

Our flight home went smoothly and I was glad to be home so we could get the little guy back on his schedule.

September 29, 2008 --- Trip to MN

Calvin and I arrived safely back in Denver this afternoon after taking a trip to Minnesota to attend the wedding of Vicki and Jerry.

Calvin's first airplane ride went wonderfully. We had to get up at 4am for our flight at 6:45am and he fussed for a couple minutes but not even a real cry as we left Denver on Thursday morning. He slept most of the way to Minnesota and then for about the last 20 minutes, we played "kiss the baby head" and "over the head" games that we like to play.

We rented a car and drove to Roseville and waited for Grandma (Deanna) at the Target there. She arrived soon after we got there, it was so wonderful to see her. We did some quick shopping at Target and then headed up to see Vicki and Jerry. Calvin, having been taken out of his usual schedule and being surrounded by people he didn't know, was not happy about being held by anyone but me. And even that didn't make him terribly happy. After a quick visit with Vicki and Jerry, it was off to the hotel to meet Uncle Austin.

We stayed with Grandma in the Comfort Inn in Coon Rapids, Minnesota and Uncle Austin stayed in a room down the hall with his puppy Bella. Bella is so cute! A tiny little ball of sweet energy!

The 4 of us went out to dinner that evening and then I went and met back up with Vicki. While I was out, Grandma gave Calvin a bath in the hotel bathroom sink where he blessed the bathroom in the way only baby boys can: a fountain of urine. Unfortunately Calvin was not happy about being separate from me and gave Grandma and Uncle Austin a hard time until I arrived back at the hotel. So Calvin came with me to take Vicki home.
On Friday, Grandma went to a training session while I went with Vicki to get our nails done in preparation for the big day! Austin and Calvin came with us and went grocery shopping and hung out outside while our nails were finished. Then it was off to take a much needed nap. That evening we met Vicki at the church and helped decorate a little bit before turning in for the night.
Saturday was the day of the wedding! Uncle Austin's friend James came to have breakfast with us and the 5 of us went to IHOP, which was my favorite restaurant during pregnancy. There was nothing better than pancakes and hashbrowns with maple syrup! Calvin ate his rice cereal and bananas while the rest of us ate our IHOP meals.
After breakfast, Austin had to leave so we said goodbye and I proceeded to pack our belongings as that was our last day at the hotel. After the wedding we were going to stay with Dana in Savage.
More on the weekend events to come...

Update - September 19, 2008

Last Sunday, September 14, 2008, Calvin watched his first Broncos football game. At least until he fell asleep anyway. He got to see his first touchdown on TV with his dad! He was playing for a while and at one point, Wade and I were cheering for a touchdown and did a high five and apparently scared the little guy and he started crying. There will be many more football games in our future!

Calvin is starting to scoot around on his back and can nearly sit now. He sits for a few seconds unassisted before toppling over but if he has someone's finger to hold on to, he can sit pretty well.

We're still trying to figure out food, he keeps having allergic reactions which could be food he's eating directly or food I'm eating since I am nursing him. It seems that he may have a reaction to sweet potatoes but I'm not convinced yet. So far he's had rice cereal, yummy green beans, yummy carrots and not so yummy sweet potatoes, squash, and apples.

This weekend we have lots of preparations to do before we go to Minnesota for his first overnight trip next week. We will be in Minnesota from Thursday 9/25 - Monday 9/29. It will be Calvin's first airplane ride!
